I am very X

Kirstie's Handmade Home is rerunning on Sky at the moment and after watching it this weekend I had to rush out and get some X stitch supplies. I've admired Jonathan Adler's xstitch cushions and wanted to create something bright and cheery for my own house. I'm just using up left over wool from my knitting and hopefully by making a comfy cushion for my desk chair I'll spend more time sitting there blogging! Take a look at the website for Handmade Xmas gift inspiration http://www.channel4.com/4homes/on-tv/kirstie-s-homemade-home/ and step by step instructional videos. I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Bow down

Bows make me think of presents and presents make me happy. I'll wear bows everywhere in my hair, round my neck, on my belt and on my shoes. So save your ribbons this Xmas especially the wired ribbon which is great because you can model it, otherwise grab yourself a can of spray starch from the supermarket. Or go the whole hog and just get a bow tattoo (don't tempt me!).

A Teeny Weeny Bit Doesn't Count

I recently heard about cake pops which intrigued me (as all sweets do) especially because they are so teeny weeny that I am sure they can't contain any calories. It takes a special kind of artist to create something this beautiful only to see it gobbled away! But if you have the patience to create something so delicate and intricate take a look at www.bakerella.com for some inspiration and step by step instructions. Then bring them round to my house !

True Love

True love is hard to find but I have found it with my Kookai giant skull scarf. I am constantly finding excuses to wear it, as a sarong, as a boob tube and here as a dress. Once again proving my wacky theory that throw a suit jacket over the top and it's work appropriate. I've included a shot from the back, not so flattering for me, but it gives you an idea of how I tied and belted it. And no surprise I'm wearing my new vintage shoes from Grey Lynn market already.

she will only charge me $100 exactly the cost of the
dress she wants from Evolution!)

Prawn on a Stick Day

Prawn on a stick day otherwise known as Grey Lynn Festival, is a great opportunity to eat and shop (combining my 2 favorite things - pure genius). A tip for first timers is to buy vintage on the spot, but try and get websites for new stuff and buy later as some  vendors increase their prices for the Grey Lynn millionaires.

We couldn't find the prawn on a stick vendors first time round, which probably made my shopping skills more focused as we went round because I spotted these gorgeous snake skin ankle boots from about 20ft away through a throng of people.

These vendors had great vintage stuff including these cute brooches. They are based in Tirau so I think a roadtrip to all the vintage stores down there is going on the todo list for summer.

I also loved this street entertainer who was doing all sorts of contortion tricks (reminder to self: go back to yoga) and her wonderful china doll makeup. All the little girls were spellbound.

And our day was complete when we finally found the prawn vendors.

Art in the Dark

Photos courtesy of Art in the Dark cause I forgot my camera ! duh

I'm not sure which I enjoy more Art in the Dark or the build up. Everytime Brittany and I see a sign or drive past we chant "Art in the Dark, Bert is a Jerk" in a Steven Hawkingsesque electronic voice box style. Small things amuse small minds!

Luckily the rain held off and I scored the primo parking space so it was a great night. My favourite things had to be the teeny weeny work by Emile Priest, and my gorgeous glam friends tottering up and down the hill in their heels. My only wish was that it could run longer than 2 nights as I would have loved to have gone again.
