My Favourite Vlogs of the Moment

YouTube is starting to impact on my ability to hold a conversation. As soon as I hear someone asking a question my reflex action is to shout “YouTube it”.
The world may be my oyster but YouTube is my university. I learnt how to remove a security tag (long story), how to make a bedhead, and how to fix problems with my computer. I am sure I could learn how to perform surgery if someone would just lie still enough!

My main obsession is keeping up with new makeup styles and techniques. I can justify this by calling it professional development. Even if you don't work as a makeup artist or stylist I am sure your boss expects you to look nice at work, so don't feel guilty watching these vlogs at your desk:

Important Notes:

By my logic professional development hours also include time spent clothes shopping and at beauty appointments!

For those of you who aren't used to seeing men with makeup on (ie models) don't be freaked out that Wayne shows the techniques on himself.

Even More Furtastic

The teenager cracked up laughing when she found me snuggled up on the couch in my fur jacket. I was reliving the days when on the way home from a party or dinner my mum would throw her fur coat over me in the backseat.

I’m attracted to coloured, shaggy OTT furs , no surprises there. I'm sure the cold is bringing out the crazy in me more than usual.
Pairing them with skinny jeans and skyscraper shoes stops them overwhelmng my teeny frame and makes me look more like a powder puff lollipop (not a bad thing!).
My jacket's a lucky find from the thrift store but when I win the lottery I’m heading over to Balmain for this purple number, then I'll pop over to Celine for a nice pink and blue one,  and if it's only second or third prize I'll be shopping up a storm online at www.topshop.com .

Layer upon layer

Somedays I feel like a Sara Lee Danish, layer upon layer upon layer.

This winter there's been a few days where even my tights don’t keep my legs warm enough so I've been trying to utilise some of my maxis. I'm particuarly keen on wearing them with cropped leather jackets and boots. I have even considered donning a pair of sneaky leg warmers underneath!

The Love Bridge

It’s no good trying to stand in the way of love. The love locks on the Pont des Arts are back in force after being mysteriously removed under cover of darkness in May 2010.

Here in NZ what we lack in romantic sensabilities we make up for in picturesque landscapes, behold our own Cardrona Bra Fence.

Running Hot and Cold

I grew up in the 80’s if you hadn’t noticed by my constant references to Madonna.

Even if you’re not old enough to remember you have probably seen photos of the stunning decor which revolved around pastel pink and grey leather lounge suites.

My psyche was so damaged I have had a permanent aversion to these colours in combination until now.... enter the neon (hot) pink and (cold) grey.
It’s so spicy it makes me tingle.

Do Somthing You Love Everyday

It’s so important to infuse your days with a little joy, and incorporating something you love into everyday is a really good goal.
I love vodka so here are some new and interesting ways to incorporate more vodka into your day!

Vodka iceblocks are a fun alternative to cocktails when its hot

There are lots of dessert & cake recipies that incorporate vodka

Even pasta sauces utilise vodka

Alice Never Looked So Good

Alice the camel had one hump when she probably wished she had these boots instead.

While camel toe is not cool and it’s why we never, ever, ever wear leggings as trousers the colour camel is way cool and I can’t get enough of it this winter.

I am also partial to Sand, Caramel and Coffee, but am making an honest attempt to cut back on the eating of Caramel as this can result in unsightly humps.

Hounds of the Baskervilles

A gorgeous friend of mine Janelle was asking everyone which colour houndstooth they liked as she has included some in her new collection. Of course I want all 3!

It has to be my favourite pattern ever . Blown out size or traditional, coloured or black and white it's perfect for everything from statement winter coats to sedate suiting.
I always gravitate towards houndstooth for winter and now I've seen these tights I'm going to have to get my hands on some.
Very Sherlock! and please check out Janelle's website  www.janellehinch.co.nz and FB page for amazing NZ made clothing.

A Girls Guide to DIY

You don’t require power tools and a builders crack to become a DIY whiz, just some advice from some Finish chics and a few helpful Youtube tutorials.

This amazing Leather Dress is from OutsaPop Trashion . The tutorial for this dress will be in her upcoming DIY fashion book (hopefully it will be printed in English as well as Finish). But until then check out her blog at www.outsapop.com

And anyone that follows me on Pinterest will see I regularly pin DIY fash ideas. Funnily enough I found most of them come from one site! www.trashtocouture.com.

It's Like That ...

I have a new weapon of choice. I have taken to wearing gold chains so large you could chain a bike up with them. If the youths I overheard saying “Man that ladies chain is ballin” get any fancy ideas I shall wield them above my head a la Wonder Woman and her golden lasso.

I’m very attached to them as they took me weeks to find. Scouring chain stores like Diva,Equip & Lovisa paid off when I found some wrist wraps threaded with leopard fabric for $7. After discarding the fabric and a few manipulations with my trusty pliers I look like the fourth member of Run DMC.

Respect the Sheep

There is nothing more soothing on a cold winters night than sipping tea and clack clack clacking away with your needles.
2012 and the return of the chunky knit is the perfect time to start as the bigger the needles the faster you get results.

My top tips for knitting would  be... stick to the tea as boozy knitting equals a big old mess not a jumper, knit something big so you can hide under it like a blanket while you work, if a few carefully placed embellishments can’t hide the holes claim its designer
Of course it’s cool otherwise Stella McCartney, Michael Kors, and Missoni wouldn’t do it!!

If you need help getting started check out superstar knitter extraordinaire Staci Perry’s of www.verypink.com  and watch, and pause, and rewind her youtube tutorials as many times as you need to till you get the hang of it.

Someone already stole this ones jumper

Boob to Bum

The whole capsule wardrobe thing has been doing my head in lately. Less is more my arse, tell that to someone who just won the lottery.
My style swings as rapidly as my moods and requires a whopping 20ft of wardrobe space to cater for my whim of fancy on any particular day.

My current repurposing obsession has however now spread to the wardrobe and I am experimenting with wearing boob tubes as skirts and vice a versa. I am happy to report it’s going very well and I feel quite smug that I now get twice as much wear out of them.
Here are some pieces that could easily do the double duty.
